Under the B…beer! College bar hosts ridiculously fun weekly bingo night

Do you remember your college days? I do. At least parts of it. Wednesday and Thursday nights were usually a blur, mostly induced by a seemingly endless flow of alcohol and bar hopping. Let me be clear that I went to college in the UK where you can drink at 18. So don’t think I’m condoning under-ages liquor consumptions in the United States.

Anyway, I digress. This isn’t about pub night or bar hopping. This is about bingo. Actually, it’s about both.

Back in my day (I’m starting to sound like an old grandpa here but I assure you I’m not) hitting the bars and clubs meant drinking, possibly dancing if you were in the mood, and venturing to another bar for more drinking. In addition to the drinking, you’d probably take part in some eating.

That was pretty much it. Beer pong wasn’t that big of a deal where I went to school, but it’s still popular among college kids in the US. That, however, might be replaced by something else in the not-so-distant future. I’m talking, of course, about Bingo.

Yeah, I know, I know. You’re thinking, “Bingo? Aren’t you talking about college campuses, not retirement homes?”

That’s what I thought when I first learned about what they’re doing at a University of South Carolina watering hole. A bar that’s very popular among college kids has added Bingo to its mix of eclectic fun. Every Wednesday, Pinch hosts a Bingo night with cheap bear, good BBQ, and low-cost pub fare.

And the place is packed. With college students. For real. But this isn’t your typical church basement Bingo. No, this is way different. Sure, you’ve got the Bingo cards and the daubers. And you’ve got the caller on the microphone. But you’ve also got an added element of fun.

If you call a false Bingo win, you’re forced to sing a round of karaoke or lead the bar in the pledge of allegiance. And people love this, so much so that there’s always a huge line snaking around the corner outside Pinch.

I love to see young people getting excited about Bingo and would love to see more college bars mirror this concept all across the US. If your local bar doesn’t offer bingo, don’t worry. You can always fire up your laptop and enjoy a game at 123BingoOnline.com. Plus, you won’t be forced to sing karaoke.
