The 2012 Olympics are upon us and the world will witness the greatest athletes to walk the face of the earth compete in over 32 sports. The events are being held in London this time around and the opening ceremonies were a grand event. Watching all countries walk into the stadium waving their flags with pride is always a great sight. While many countries are only there to compete and take part, most will have no chance at winning medals. As usual the power house countries such as the U.S.A., China and Russia have some amazing athletes with shots at taking home gold for their countries.
In the spirit of the London 2012 games, it might be a fun idea to make a bingo card featuring athletes with the best chances of winning gold and those with the most star power. So few are able to capture our attention in such a short time, they deserve to be recognized.
•Alex Morgan (Women’s soccer, USA): Morgan is the latest shining star of the American Soccer team. Her magnificent play and good looks has brought her celebrity status not only in the states, but all over the world. Alex is the youngest woman on the National team and this will be her first Olympics. The U.S. women are favorites to win the gold and with the help of Morgan, they look better than ever. You can read more about Alex Morgan on her official website.
•Usain Bolt (Track and Field, Jamaica): The world’s fastest man is poised to have another great Olympics 2012. In 2008 he set 3 world records while effortlessly smashing the 100m world record in dramatic fashion. He would also become the first man in Olympic history to win gold in the 100m and 200m in world record time. He would also win gold in the men’s 4×100 relay instantly thrusting him into the world spotlight. It’s hard to imagine anyone will ever run as fast as Usain, so he could go down in history as the fastest human to ever live.
•Leisel Jones (Swimming, Australia): This 26 year old swimmer first saw Olympic fame when she was only 15 at the 2000 Olympic Games. The London Olympics, 2012 marks her 3rd trip to this prestigious event and she is one of Australia’s brightest stars in already star studded team.
•Leryn Franco (Javelin, Paraguay): This model/athlete or athlete/model was voted sexiest athlete of the Olympics. Her attributes outside the sports world seem to outshine her athletic achievements. In 2011 she was featured in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and countless other magazines.
•Zoe Smith (Weightlifting, Great Britain): This London native is a hometown favorite, having been raised in Greenwich, London. Smith competes in the woman’s 58kg division and holds the British record in the clean and jerk and was the first Brit to medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2010. She is one of Britain’s biggest hopefuls for winning a medal in weightlifting and with the crowd behind her; she could just raise the roof.
Of course there are many athletes competing this year at the Olympics, but few will stand out as much as these. So, if you’re looking for a fun twist at your next bingo game and looking for a bingo card maker to use, pick these athletes or use your own hometown favorites to add some excitement into your game.
