Bingo Could Be Coming Soon To A Shopping Mall Near You

If you think doing your Christmas shopping at the mall is already chaotic, wait until you have to deal with people screaming ‘Bingo! ‘while downing a Starbucks and holding onto their shopping bags stuffed with sweaters, gadgets, and who knows what else (I’m looking at you, Victoria Secret bag).

South African officials are considering permitting electronic bingo machines in area shopping malls. There is already major opposition to the proposal, primarily from Indian South Africans. They oppose allowed bingo machines in the KwaZulu-Natal province, which is home to about 1.4 million residents of Indian origin.

Their main concerns are the moral, social, and financial implications that putting Bingo into a shopping mall would bring. Putting electronic bingo machines in malls would give people easier access to games.

It’s not clear whether the bingo centers will be in a dedicated area of the shopping mall or if they would be scattered throughout the mall, or placed in the food court. But as much as there is opposition to the idea, you wouldn’t be hard-pressed to find a lot of people who like the idea.

The truth is people love convenience, and many South Africans are already enjoying electronic bingo at home in the form of online bingo. We offer games at, but the difference is with us, you can play for small stakes or even for free. That probably won’t be the case with mall bingo. With that said, they’d have to keep the costs of bingo cards fairly low if they want to attract newcomers and casual gamblers.

My question is do shopping malls actually want electronic bingo on their property? Sure, it would bring people to the mall, but these people might, at the very most, buy a couple cups of coffee and sit down to play bingo. They wouldn’t necessarily go shopping and spend their hard-earned money – unless of course they win.

Plus, malls aren’t exactly 24/7 operations. When the doors close at 9pm, will the bingo machines close, too? There are lots of unanswered questions to figure out if this is remotely a good idea.

We’ll be keeping an eye on this as it unfolds. Remember, you don’t have to wait for mall bingo to get in a quick game outside of a traditional bingo hall. has your game, 24/7.
