Iconic Casino Games: What is Roulette?

If you’ve ever watched The Price is Right or Wheel of Fortune, there’s one popular casino game that you’ll be immediately attracted to.

No, we’re not talking about The Price is Right video slots game (though that does sound like fun). Nor are we talking about a Vannah White-theme slots casino game (though we never grow tired of watching her turn those letters).

We’re talking about Roulette.

Much like America’s two favorite games shows, Roulette, one of the world’s most popular casino games, involves spinning a wheel and hoping to strike it rich.

However, in Roulette, you don’t actually get to do the spinning yourself. Instead, the dealer spins the wheel and releases a ball. When the wheel stops and the ball lands on a number, the game ends.

You’re probably wondering what makes Roulette one of the most loved casino games if you don’t actually get to spin the wheel. Well, it’s what happens just outside the wheel that makes it incredible.

Before the dealer spins the roulette wheel, players get to bet on what number the ball will land on.

There are 38 numbers to bet on, including 1 through 36, a single zero, and a double zero. To bet on a number, you simply place your chips on the number you like on the Roulette board.

We know what you’re thinking. Hitting the right number out of 38 numbers is next to impossible. That’s why the house usually pays out 35 to 1 if you hit your single number. That means if you drop $100 on a number on the Roulette board, and if your number hits, you’ll win $3,500.

If you don’t think you stand a chance, you can also bet on a series of numbers, including a set of two, a group of four, a line, or even a full column.

You can also bet on a dozen numbers at once by choosing to bet on the first 12 numbers, the second 12 numbers, or the last 12 numbers.

Or, you can bet on evens or odds. Or black or red.

The more numbers grouped in your single bet, the lower the payout you’ll receive. But your chances of hitting your bet increases with more numbers involved.

That’s really all there is to playing Roulette. You pick a number or a series of numbers. The dealer spins the wheel. And you hope your bet wins.
